Award-winning science journalist Ziya Tong travels the world to investigate how microplastics have infiltrated the human body. She flies to Amsterdam, Türkiye, Texas, England, France, the Philippines and across Canada, meeting scientists who are sounding the alarm about the impact of microplastics on human health.
Ziya makes it personal, putting herself on the front line, enlisting scientists’ help in examining her home and testing her body, revealing the scope of the problem. Ziya wants to know if microplastics in the environment are in her blood, lungs, liver or brain. Could microplastics be affecting her hormones? Tong is one of the first people to confirm that she has plastic inside her body. In the tradition of Super-Size Me and What the Health?, we follow Ziya as whistleblowers and experts reveal frightening health risks – including the rise in many types of cancer, Alzheimer’s, learning disabilities, infertility, obesity and lung disease.
